HIMIKO

Shakti & The VasantaMala Dance Company
Live music by Daihachi Oguchi and the Suwa Daiko Troupe
Music composed by Sakuzo Sendo
Special Guest - Katsuumi Niwa (tenor)

performed at the Gokokuji Temple

Powerful vibrations and beating of the Japanese Taiko, the eerie call of the conch shell, gutsy screams and incredible voice of Niwa along with Shakti and her group's dynamic dance give way to a most memorable performance. Set in the Buddhist temple, Gokokuji, the performance was a modern day ritual.
Himiko was also performed at the Osaka Festival Hall and New York's Lincoln Centre Avery Fisher Hall.
This show was the start of Shakti's international reputation as a powerful and unique performer.
